Dr. Schwartz comes to Dr. Adami with the idea of examining RNA in brush biopsy not cells or proteins.
2008:
Proof of Concept by Drs. Schwartz and Adami for messenger RNA based classifer for oral cancer.
2010:
Technology optioned from the UIC College of Dentistry.
2012:
First patent issued, “RNA From Cytology Samples to Diagnose Disease” Detection of messenger RNA markers in oral lesions using brush biopsy.
2014:
Arphion Ltd formed and first STTR Grant awarded. National Science Foundation ($224,000).
Research Operations set up at HITEC incubator in Chicago.
Begin testing for microRNA based oral cancer classifier.
2015:
Second STTR Grant begins. National Institutes of Health ($150,000).
Improved diagnostic test method microRNA Proof of concept and provisional patent filed. Discovery that miRNA measurment in oral lesions is accurate and reproducible and exceeds requirmeents for accurate diagnosis of oral cancer.
2016:
Patent filed – Accurate microRNA technology for oral lesion samples obtained noninvasively.
2019:
Preliminary validation of brush based prototype classifier to differentiate Oral lichen planus from oral cancer using miRNA
